THE STARTUPS AFRICA – unleashing the power of female entrepreneurs in tech startups and innovative business ideas.

The Startups is born out of a conviction , that with the right support, the next generation of women entrepreneurs will champion the direction of a new world of economic miracle.
The Start-ups Africa is a non-for-profit business incubation platform by the Felix King Foundation in association with a network of passionate , spirited and experienced entrepreneurs, strategists, thinkers with wide variety of backgrounds.
Our mission is to educate and inspire women to start their own business/start-ups, and to support them in the challenging early years especially when being a female entrepreneur. At the Felix King Foundation, we understand the journey of struggles, and know the value of supporting women to support their families, their community and each other.
The startups Africa will be an annual conference series giving early-stage women funded or women led start-ups pitching and networking opportunity, brand exposure through media/PR, and professional support in the crucial early-stages of idea validation, getting first funding of up to $10,000 (seed funding) and getting seen.
Beyond the competition event , The Startups Africa will offer different mentoring programs for small businesses and tech start-ups, with connections to venture capitalists (VC), angel investors, big cooperatives, to local Start-ups ecosystem.

THE STARTUPS AFRICA ROADSHOW (Get attention, grow woman participation, entrepreneurs and investors)

The Startups Africa competition series across selected cities in Africa with a mission to give early-stage women founded or Women-led Start-ups brand exposure , pitching opportunity, and presenting 10 semi finalist to a panel of judges, investors, press, corporate executives and angel investors.
The competition will be covered in the media.

SPEED MENTORING

Shortlisted teams are invited to a speed mentoring session the day before the competition, our mentors will help contestants to finalize their pitch (presentation skills), and discuss any challenging questions that might be asked by the jury at the live presentation (go-to-market strategy, business model, etc.)

THE PITCH

4 minutes pitch and 3 minutes Q & A for each presentation. Jury is a panel of local investors (senior executives,), Start-up mentors, angel investors.
The startups live event, will be a business – styled reality program and produced for tv broadcast in front of live audience.

THE CONFERENCE

The conference is planned to be the largest gathering of women entrepreneurs in Africa. The conference will host international and Local experts/facilitators and guess speakers.

APPLICATION RULES

Start-ups by a woman or with majority of women.
The only requirement set by organizers is that the applicants must be start-up lead by female or founders/co-founder(s) should be ladies or female founded start-ups or Women’s share 50% of ownership or the team members has to be Women (50 %) an equal gender diversity representation (50% – 50%) within the entrepreneurial team or must identify as Women in a way that’s significant to them.

Now it’s upon us! If you consider yourself the next generation female entrepreneur working with one of the next disruptive idea, the three-fold TSA $10,000k entrepreneurship competition (Pitch, Accelerate and Launch) will give you a chance to not just to prove yourself in front of a prestigious crowd, but also to mingle and gain access to a veritable powerhouse’s network and resources .
At the pitch competition stages, you will give a 4 minutes pitch of your start-up idea in front of a panel of judges and a big, live prestigious audience and a television camera for home audience.

KEY INFORMATION:

  • Location: Balmoral Convention Center, Federal Palace Hotel and Casino, Victoria Island, Lagos Nigeria.
  • Date: You can submit your pitch proposal between Nov 15th and Feb 29th, 2020.
  • The Pitch competition and conference : 27th/28th March, 2020
  •  Cost: Free, The Pitch finalist will also be reimbursed (to an extent) for travel and lodging expenses to attend the finals in Lagos.
  • Focus: Business innovative ideas across broad spectrum.
  • Amount you can win: Your idea can win you up to $10,000 seed funding, with exposure to angel investors and worlds venture capitalists.
